It wasn't a bad sort of place. Lots of things to do and people to see. Plenty of freedom to dart over the rooftops and down the alleys--or out of the village and into the woods and rocky wild places beyond. Obito liked Michi no Sato.

He had stopped for lunch and was eating at a table outside the restaurant, watching people walk past. The food was good. The cold breeze was nice. Ah, yes. Years and years trapped in a cave with a crazy old man and a bunch of plant monsters--it had left him really able to appreciate the little things.

[ooc: here is an AU Obito in his twenties. Got through the time with Madara, and Rin's death, but didn't go completely evil after all of it...]

He had the very strong suspicion that if he used Obito's full nickname she'd not react well all the sudden. He looked back and forth between the two. "...I really don't understand."

"Tension, I really don't..." Obito looked completely lost and confused as well until, "oh!" As if some sudden, important realization had just struck him. "Unless it's sexual tension. An undeniable chemistry. A spark between us, you know."

The hand around Itachi's clenches tight enough to dig nails into the back of his hand as the other drops to her kunai pouch. Her eyes all but sparkle as her grin stays fixed on her face. "You wish," she answers, tilting her head to let the braid fall to her side. Her smile promises that she'd like nothing more than to put a kunai through his other eye.

Itachi could only stare at the man, though Tenten's action derailed him off his intended reaction for a moment as he made a startled noise at the sensation of nails so abruptly. Once the shock of the sensation passed though, he shifted on his feet and turned, swatting Obito hard with the back of his hand across his upper arm.

"Obito-nii-sama!" Aghast was not the tone he'd been hoping for there, and he tried to put more directness into it. "You do -not- say things like that!" He knew he was a little pink in the face, but he gave the man a stern look all the same. "No sparks. Bad Obito."

The swat gets a startled, amused noise that chokes off into a short laugh. "Ah? My mistake then, my mistake." He turns his gaze to Tenten, raising his eyebrows and inclining his head toward Itachi slightly to indicate what it is he's really talking about. "There are no sparks."

Nii-sama? Her gaze sharpens into a glare at that, hand staying firmly near her pouch in overt threat. The scolding is enough to leave her arching an eyebrow, torn between facepalming and laughing aloud, but she keeps her eyes on Obito.

Hmph. Most of the tension bleeds out of her form at the other's admission, taking it as intended, though her grip doesn't loosen on Itachi's hand. "Good," she answers, eyes flicking toward Itachi before returning to Obito again. "Let's hope it stays that way."

Itachi huffed and squeezed Tenten's hand, coming to a full halt as he gently, but pointedly lifted her hand his other hand moving to smooth over the nails -digging into his skin-. "If we could halt the glaring and the sudden foreplay-esque clawing for the time being that would be highly appreciated. Obito-nii is perfectly capable of respecting when someone is taken."

He gave the man a pointed stare. "Now aren't you?"

He nodded easily to Tenten. He was certainly not about to put his own well being on the line by getting into a love tangle as full of electrocution and sharp objects as this one would be. "Almost entirely perfectly capable of respecting that," he said. "What makes you both assume I'm not taken as well, anyway?"

Her cheeks flush that the use of nails in any context is seen as foreplay, but she just lets him lift her hand and smiles. "I'm almost entirely perfectly capable of doing that, Itachi-sama," she responds, using their joined hands to bring his up to her mouth to press a soft, open-mouthed kiss to the back of his hand over the intents from her nails.

The smile turns to Obito this time. "Perhaps it was the touching?"

"What? No, he's just affectionate." Itachi blinked at Tenten at -that-, then looked over to Obito. "Because you're you Obito-nii. If you actually had someone I'd be shocked. Are you trying to say you -do-?"

[mooneye]

He spread his hands and shook his head. "I'm extremely snuggleable, what can I say? It's both a blessing, and a curse. But certainly nothing for you to worry about." And he turned to Itachi with a trace of mock-irritation. "What do you mean, because I'm me? I'll have you know that aside from the face and the personality I am an excellent catch."

And after a moment a snort of laughter. "And no, of course I don't.'

She only hums, not so quick to forgive, but at least not about to carve his eyes out with a kunai. Just gently, she keeps rubbing her fingers over the back of his hand to sooth the nail marks as she watches the two of them. "Well, come on, this is a conversation we can have walking," she prompts, tugging Itachi's hand to start him moving again.

He let himself be coaxed, soothed by the fact she didn't look like she was about to jump on Obito with both hands filled with weaponry anymore. "You're very distinctive Obito-nii, I'm sure there's... someone out there."

He couldn't help it, he wanted to, but he simply couldn't keep it in. "After all, Kakashi has done his best to be more like you."

He strolled a beside them, a few paces away. That last suggestion got a sharp, quiet little hiss of breath. And with more engaged, biting anger than he's displayed about anything so far, "For all I care, Kakashi can..." But he stopped, shrugging and sort of twitching his head to one side. When he spoke again it was in a calmer tone. "I'm hoping not to run into Kakashi here, actually."

This, she's not jumping into. The only thing she knows about Kakashi is in the context of Gai's rival, not whatever his relationship is with this Obito guy. Whatever had sparked that anger, she didn't want to end up in the middle of it.

Itachi's eyes widened and he turned in place, reaching out to him to rest his hand on his arm. "Peace Obito-nii. I promise that's not what I meant at -all-. I know it's... I know. Okay? Being Hokage means some back-filter and I wondered... It came up when I was looking through my team number records." He looked a bit guilty and petted him. "I just meant that clearly you have admirable qualities, that's all, I promise."

[mooneye]

Obito was tense for a moment before relaxing, touching Itachi's hand where it rested on his arm. "It's complicated. Of course I would be glad to see him... in a way. Just a lot of bad water under the bridge, is all."

[bunsofsteel]

"I don't know, I haven't seen any of the sensei," she observes, still stroking her fingers along the back of Itachi's hand to make sure he'll keep moving. After all, the illusions sound interesting, and whatever this 'bad water' stuff is? She doesn't want to mess with it until she has a better idea of what they're talking about.

It's easy to forget that Itachi's really Hokage of his land until he starts talking about stuff like this, and she's not sure she likes being the only one out of the loop.

"See him at a distance and that he's not who he was before your untimely separation." He started moving again, voice soft, soothing. "He's done well with your eye though, and what he learned helped save my brother at least once, maybe more, to say nothing of others when we were in ANBU together, okay?"

[mooneye]

"Hmm." He just shook his head. He didn't really want to think about Kakashi, or the strange little flashes he still got out of that eye when it went active. "Well. Good."

[bunsofsteel]

"Kakashi-sensei has..." She trails off, glancing toward Obito again and mentally picturing Kakashi's face. That's right, the side that was always covered with the mask was the same as...

This was definitely going to be a conversation for later.

He hummed softly and inclined his head toward Obito.

Obito turned to her smiled slowly, a little strangely. He lifted one hand and tapped the sharp tip of his finger beneath the missing eye. Yes.

She swallows hard, eyes studying his face, then she turns to keep walking. "I'm... sorry, I'm sorry."

Itachi hummed and tugged on Obito's sleeve as he moved to keep up with Tenten. "Basic combat illusions fine with you two? I'll admit they're a bit.. flashier than my personalized ones often are if you just want an example."
