Preparing for the festival.

He had a neat pile next to him on the counter, black and silver leather rabbit god mask at the very top. It was a bit morbid, the story of that, but it seemed like everything about this festival was morbid, so that was actually appropriate, in a way. He had the pale off white and frost blue kimono pulled most of the way up his shoulders, and he turned carefully one way, then the other as he examined himself in the mirror.

The reason? He was playing around with Oiroke, but he was doing it behind a closed door in the bathroom, and he sincerely hoped no one came to see what was taking him so long. He was just... curious. After all, he'd never spent much time in the shape and he had a memory of doing so.

Still, did it really change so little about his appearance?

She hums. "If you say so~" She gives him a glance and a smile, brushing past him to pick up the mask. "How come this one?"

"As it was explained to me, that's the mask of a death bringing Rabbit." He ran his fingertip over one. "It's pretty though."

[bunsofsteel]

"A death-bringing rabbit? Sounds like something Lee would want to adopt." She snorts and fingers the material of the mask with another thoughtful hum. "I got one like a dragon~"

"It was this or a unicorn... and this didn't have any parts sticking out irritatingly far."

She laughs and holds the mask up to her face, blinking innocently at him through it. "What do you think, Itachi-sama?"

He studied her for a moment. "Lovely."

[bunsofsteel]

"Good answer~" She gives him another bright grin and lowers the mask back to the pile. "Now go ahead and get dressed so I can hug you."

"You can hug me when I'm undressed." The words were a low murmur, but he moved to pull on what he had in hand anyway.

"I could, but then we'd never get ourselves to the festival, hm~?" She smiles again, waiting until he's dressed before scooting him to wrap her arms around him, content just to hold him.

Considering the layers of his attire, she either waited a good while, or intercepted him early in. Either way, he was perfectly happy to hug her back.

She'd waited until he was dressed, using the incentive of there being so many layers to keep from undressing him. From there, she just stays in against him and murmurs, "I talked to Obito-san."

He paused, surprised. "You did?"

"Mmhm." She nuzzles her nose against his chest and relaxes against him, eyes still closed. "We... reached an understanding, kind of. Not saying that we're best friends or anything, but... yeah."

He ran his fingers lightly over her hair, to the nape of her neck. "That's good."

She shivers pleasantly beneath his touch and snuggles in closer against him with a soft smile. "That makes you happy, right?"

"It's a relief." It was a murmur and he tightened his other arm around her.

She hums quietly and nods against his chest. "You know I care for you a lot, right? Like... family."

His lips quirked. "I had the idea that might be so."

[bunsofsteel]

"Don't laugh!" She butts her head against his chest. "I just wanted to say it, is all."

[youngesthokage]

The small smile faded. "It wasn't meant to be laughter."

[bunsofsteel]

"Good." She leans up to press a soft kiss to the bare skin of his neck. "I just wanted you to know for certain."

[youngesthokage]

He nodded slightly and fell quiet, fingers stroking her hair.

"Be careful, there's needles in there," she murmurs against his chest, nestling in comfortably before glancing up. "Is something wrong?"

He shook his head at once. "No, it's fine."

[bunsofsteel]

She hums questioningly again, but doesn't press it, instead just squeezing him tighter before stepping back. "Okay~ Come on, let's finish getting ready for the festival, yeah? It looks like fun!"
