[Open] Valentine's Day~

Ino had taken extreme care to tailor her gifts and had spent the last couple weeks getting everything she needed for today sorted out. Now it was just getting everything to everyone.

She'd already sent the poor flustered Godaime Itachi home with his bag of sweets and the basket with sours and tomatoes for Sasuke. There was also a pack of carefully stashed sharpened hairpins stashed for Tenten in the pile that she was sure the boys probably wouldn't notice right off.

She'd hunted down the two stray younger Neji's and left baskets of teas in their apartments, so they were taken care of. Sakura had gotten a nice batch of her favorite dessert tucked into her freezer while she was in her clinic too. Kakashi had a copy of one of Jiraiya's books left just inside his windowsill. It wasn't new, but it's what she had available and it wasn't the one he'd been carrying around.

There was a detour to drop off chocolates and a couple scrolls where she knew the rather put out Sannin and his newest housemate would find it near his cave. She just hoped the chocolate was well received by the teen.

And then there was Mikoto's house. Putting on her resolve face, she sealed pretty much everything into an assortment of ribbons and headed over. The youngest Sasuke had gotten half his Valentine's present already but that was fine, she still had his sour candies to give over, and she knew they'd likely be taken well.

The elder Itachi was getting a bag with at least two dozen sweets of non-repeated types. The littlest one was getting more. He was adorable. The middle boy Sasuke was getting the same as the youngest. The girl Sasukes were getting bittersweet chocolates.

Banking on the fact that most people seemed to like the same things as their male counterparts, Sakumo was getting some of the same fancy dessert as Sakura got. Lee got flowers. She'd actually found the guy lotuses so that's what he was getting. Neji elder was getting a tea mix she'd put together just for him. Hinata was getting cinnamon rolls.

All the Narutos were getting red bean candies. She hadn't missed how fond of the flavor the guy was when they were in academy together. Mikoto was harder, so she defaulted to straight chocolates and sours for the woman in case she didn't actually like sweets.

The little Tenten was getting chocolates herself, and Kabuto was getting some tiny vials of poison she was experimenting with.

All of this she checked over carefully to make complete sure she wasn't forgetting anything. Which reminded her of Fugaku having moved in... More sours into the ribbon seals for him, yes, and chocolates for Karin... Just to be on the safe side, more chocolate was stashed to cover any new people she hadn't spotted yet, and that was that.

Once that was settled, she headed out to make sure everyone got their Valentine's gifts.

She bit her lower lip and resisted the urge to cry as she got a good look at that expression. "You're not alone, okay?"

"Easy words to acknowledge, hard words to feel."

"Fine." She stepped forward and threw her arms around him, pressing her face against him.

He went completely still, one hand still holding the box of tea as he stared down at the top of her head, not sure how to respond.

When he didn't shove her off, she turned it into a proper hug instead of something closer to a grab. "You're not alone."

Another long beat of hesitation, but he finally bowed his head and let his free hand gently rest against her upper back -- not returning the hug by any means, but acknowledging the warmth and comfort as it was meant.

Some tenseness left her at the acceptance, and she stayed right where she is. "You'll never stop being my friend, no matter what. I'll always want you to be happy."

The smallest tremor shook his voice then as his eyes stayed closed, position unchanging. "Why?"

"Because I care about you." Her voice was soft, and she tightened her hold a little. "And not just because you finally got me that vase."

That hurt, too, a smaller ache that left him squeezing his eyes more tightly shut before moving his arms to attempt to disengage. "I am sorry."

"Hey, none of that." She lifted her head to look at him and gave him a crooked smile. "I'm not trying to depress you more."

"I appreciate your intent, and the gift," he answered, inclining his head again. "If you'll excuse me."

She studied his face and then gave him a soft smile as she pulled back. "I'm here if you need to talk about anything at all. It'll work out, you'll see."

He didn't answer, only inclining his head in a wordless gesture of thanks before turning on his heel and returning inside. He needed time to deal with his emotions, not support.

Hinata watched as her obviously upset cousin walked from the staircase on the second floor of the house to the room of the door that used to belong to the female Naruto. While she didn't know exactly what he was feeling, she certainly did sympathise.

Since he had been the one to offer her support when she was most upset over the arrival of Naruto-kun by being patient and compassionate, she wanted to return the favour. She still held the basket of cinnamon buns from Ino-san and she'd found a few pieces of green tea flavoured sweets that she knew he secretly enjoyed although he would never admit it to anyone.

Quietly, she knocked on the door to the now empty room and waited.

Once in her room, he stood in the center of it, just... looking at everything. It was all as she left it, as if it were just going to be a normal day. Those ridiculous outfits of hers, the orange dresses, the short skirts, the large t-shirts... The mask she had worn to the festival. The now-empty vase from the flowers he had bought her.

It seemed impossible that she might be gone. On impulse, he activated his Byakugan again, scanning each Chakra signature in search of hers... instead, he saw Hinata-sama, even before she knocked on the door. He didn't bother to turn to acknowledge her then. Only a soft, "Come."

She entered softly, not surprised that he hadn't turned around. "Neji-nii-san, I have come to share my gift from Ino-san with you." Her tone was gentle and unassuming.

Silence again for a long moment before his jaw clenched, letting his Byakugan fade away before his vision worsened. It didn't matter how long he stared or how hard he looked, she wasn't here.

Voice low, he still didn't turn. "Thank you, Hinata-sama, but that is unnecessary. Please, enjoy it." That's right, Ino's gift of boxed tea was still held loosely in one hand. He half-contemplated giving it to her, but selfishly decided to keep it for himself.

She removed the tea snacks she'd gotten for him from the basket. "I also have a gift for you as well," she said.

She didn't want to over stay her welcome or to pressure him into speaking about what was wrong with him because she could guess. Besides his pain was nearly palpable. At least it was to her.

"I will just place this here by the door and leave you alone." She turned to do just that.

"That was also unnecessary, but... thank you, Hinata-sama." He stayed there in the center of the room for a long moment before before sighing quietly through his nose and turning to face her.

"I would be honored... to share it with you, Hinata-sama, if you would permit," he murmured, unwilling to hurt her the way he had already hurt Ino just a handful of minutes before. "Though I must apologize if I am... less than ideal company, right now."

The smile she gave him was gentle and understanding. "That is fine, Neji-nii-san."

She remembered a time when he hadn't wanted anything to do with her, and it had hurt because she didn't understand his sudden hatred of all things related to the main family.

"Would you care for tea here or somewhere else?"

A moment as he looked around her room, as if to memorize everything where it was, before he shook his head, giving the smallest of rueful, humorless smiles. "Elsewhere, please, Hinata-sama. I... would prefer not to have anything done to this room... for as long as possible."

A vulnerability to reveal it, but to Hinata-sama...? He could trust her to allow his wishes.

She place a hand on his arm for a few seconds to offer her silent comfort before heading for the door. She thought about the rooms that the house had to offer, but dismissed them all as being too public. Instead, she headed for her own room.

She was pleased to see him behind her when she looked.

Oddly passive, he only could follow, box of tea still clutched uselessly in his hand. As much as he didn't want to be around others, nor did he wish for so much time to himself.

If Hinata-sama wished for his presence, then he would give it to her. Once in her room, he only bowed. "Pardon me for the intrusion," he murmured out of a half-remembered reflex, glancing to her to see where she wished him to sit, if at all.

She returned the bow. "It is no trouble," she responded, waving a hand at the small table by the window that she had set up. "Please, sit where you will."

She dug through a few of the things she'd found in the house that Mikoto had been willing to let her take up to her room and came up with a tea set that luckily matched and a small platter for the snacks. "I have a box of tea that I purchased from Ino-san, if you are interested."

She'd have to boil the water downstairs however.
