She was enthrusting him with making her happy. It was nothing selfish, because this was what he wished for as well.
She had chosen him, for her clan... and also his own. Perhaps this was how things should be? this was how they were, however, and he did feel content. He actually did blush into her neck at those words. "Hearing this... makes me the happiest I've ever been." Now, that future he imagines... maybe he can see it more clearly. There was a good long, unforgettable minutes even if all they did was to hold each other.
Without even mentionning it to each other, they know. They both did wish for a lineage, but nothing was rushing them, and this was all pure and new. "...so, about proper breakfast conversations...?" he mused.
Being happy, permitting themselves the luxury, was perhaps the greatest gift she could imagine. Another quiet laugh of amusement as she glanced to him, fingers threading into his short hair again.
"I think, perhaps, that I shall never again have quite so memorable a morning meal," she answered, smiling against his temple and daring to brush her lips over his skin there again.
"What do you mean 'never again' hmm?" he purred, leaning into her touch as dark eyes trailed up and over, amusement dancing into them. "We can share as many morning meals as you fit."
Every single tiny touch was his very own piece of heaven. It was, he knew, the same for her as he lightly stroked the long hair at the back of her head.
Her own eyes fluttered closed at the touch to her hair, one of her weaker points. The idea of not having to eat alone... outside of missions, that hadn't happened since she was four years old, young and naive. In spite of herself, her smile widened further, one eye opening as she glanced to meet his eyes.
"I believe I have issued you a challenge then, Sasuke," she pointed out, lips staying curved in that smile. "How memorable can a morning be, other than this one?"
"Challenge~" he echoed, quite pleased. "That sounds good to me. Challnge accpted, my dear~" he drawled, pulling away just so he could take her whole features in. "Although, I have to say, it may be futile, since a confession only ever happens once, and this..... can make a morning very special~"
As he drew back, she let her hands fall to his shoulders again, eyebrow quirked. There was almost, almost an unamused look at the term of endearment, but it softened quickly because this time? It was clear to her that it actually meant something now.
"Then perhaps," she murmured, leaning in just enough to let her forehead rest against his, "It will be up to me to create a memorable morning for you, someday, Sasuke."
There was a brief chuckle at that. "Haven't we shared this morning together though? if it's unforgettable and can't be topped on your chart, then it can hardly be challenged on mine too." he gave her a small kiss on the nose. "Challenge or not though, I can see us both trying in our own way to make every morning as unforgettable as we can... as things should be."
Her cheeks went dark red again at the tender gesture, and she huffed softly, though she still couldn't help but smile. "Perhaps. And yet, who can say what the future holds?"
The only important thing, right now, was that he would be in it. For as long as possible.
"I suppose as a further unorthodox step, it would be you moving into my home, eventually," she observed, glancing about. "Seeing as how yours is already rather full..."
"Here I thought we'd take it slow~" he chuckled. "...but seeing as your home is empty while, yes my mothers' would theorically need a fourth floor, it may be good news to her to have a free room. I don't exactly have that much belongings anyways." he gave a shrug. A bunch of clothes, some jewelry... that was all?
"But yes. Eventually. Not before you're comfortable with it." he did feel for her, and she for him, but as strange as it was, he wished to hold himself back for fear of going to fast. "I'll let you lead... if that's okay." he rand a hand through her hair once more, stroking the plentiful strands.
"We shall see," she confirmed with a nod. As much as it might be pleasant to have him here, with her, every morning when she woke up... there would be plenty of time for that, it seemed. No need to be hasty.
Her sigh had a bit of a wistful tone to it as she tilted her head in response to the hand in her hair, glancing to him. Letting her lead, giving her the freedom to choose... it would be difficult for her to know how to step, what to do, but she nodded in response.
So perhaps it was not too improper to ask, as she tilted her head further into his hand, "...Would you mind brushing it?"
"Ah~ As I thought, you hadn't done that." he claimeda strand within his fingertips and slid it over to his lips before kissing it. "It would be a pleasure." he purred, remaining as such a few long seconds, dark eyes locked onto hers before finally turning. "I trust I can find the appropriate instruments~"
Somehow, this reminded him of these few months when he tried growing his hair to see. Oh was it ever unconvincing and completely not his style. in the end he only changed his fringe slightly.
And so, after fetching a comb and brush, he was back. "You should sit down~ I do intend to take my time, unless you had matters to tend to today?"
She went still, cheeks still flushing as she met his eyes. Even a day ago, she would have protested the thought that such a simple gesture would make her feel anything at all, but from Sasuke, she felt she might simply melt in a contented puddle to the ground. A thrill of warm heat as she watched him kiss her hair before he finally let go.
"The bathroom," she directed him, pointing and only flushing more darkly, knowing he had to have seen the way she'd be momentarily captured by his eyes. Once he was back, she moved to kneel on the futon, still conveniently in the living room.
"Fortunately, I do not," she answered, fingers coming up and brushing over the bandages. They would only get in the way if he were to brush her hair, and in the wake of that kiss to her forehead from before... a breath, then she slowly started to unwind the cloth to leave the seal bare.
And he started, once this was done. He did note the removal of bandages. The seal was something he was used to see when they wnt to the public baths, but he knew there had to be a reason she hid it. He would not ask, however. It would be improper.
His attention was to the back of her head first, using the comb to carefully work out any tangles that may be, and switching to the brush once he was done, working steadily on section upon section. "...hm~ I could do this for a long time. It's soothing~"
She couldn't recall the last time she had permitted someone else to brush her hair. Surely not since she was a child. In spite of herself, her shoulders relaxed, eyes falling closed from the gentle tugs and soothing strokes of the brush through her hair.
"I would not be the one to protest, were you to do so," she confessed, exhaling and relaxing further. "I find it... comforting, for a reason I cannot explain." Maybe it was the fact that it was a remarkable sign of trust, permitting someone behind her with a blunt object, or even that her neck was exposed, the seal, all of it.
He gave a light chuckle. "Neither of us would protest, no." he did like the activity, how it kept his mind focused, and yet it was a light enough task that he could also think about other things, such as how tempting her skin was, or those lips... but temptation was hardly a sin, and easy to resist. Ater all, she was his, and he was hers. To rush this would be the worst of crimes he could commit.
For now, he would revel in this feeling, and go through small sections of hair with precise care, as if this was some mission of utmost importance. "Comfort is a good thing to feel~"
The thing is, she wouldn't protest were he to try to act on those temptations; he wasn't the only one thinking of such things, even if she was less likely to do anything. Instead, she only rested further back against her heels and let one hand come up, two fingers brushing over the hated brand in the center of her forehead.
"Sasuke... of all the places you had thought to kiss, why did you choose this one...?" She turned her head only enough to glance back at him without pulling her hair entirely away from the brush. Well, even if she wasn't going to act on those temptations, she could still talk about it, right?
"To be entirely truthful... I don't know." he shook his head, carefully combing any knots out. "Of all the places, somehow, this one... seemed to be the most impregnable, but also the most easily breached, if that makes sense. it is a contradiction, but... this is what comes up when I think about it and try to explain it."
It was indeed quite hard to conceptualize. Should it be so difficult, though, he wondered. "Of all the places, it feels.... that it needed love the most."
It did not make much sense at all, but she still felt she could understand it, in a way. The idea of it needing love was foolish enough that she almost scoffed and dismissed it immediately, but upon further reflection...
"Perhaps," she agreed, letting her eyes fall closed as she traced the brand with her fingertips. "It is something I was resentful of for most of my life." Still was, in some respects.
"In my world, it doesn't seem like this male version of you thinks any such thing. He's never hid it." he paused and briefly leaned over , claiming her chain so he could tilt her head enough to lay a gentle kiss upon it, just a brush of lips. "I don't think any less of you for hiding it, if you wish it so.... as long as you know that you are not a caged bird anymore. Not with me."
Because with him, she had freedom, and he would make certain she was conscious of it. Of course, making choices may not come naturally or spontaneously, but he would support her with all his being. This was the message he wished to transmit, without words, as dark eyes gazed into white.
"Were I born male, perhaps I would not have been so bitter, either," she agreed, pulling her fingers away.
She went still as he took her chin, swallowing hard and feeling another one of those warm shivers course through her body. Not a caged bird, with him... that's right, he had been the one to lead her out of her cage, and she had no intention of returning to it once she had grasped how sweet freedom could taste. Shifting closer, she turned slightly and brought a hand up, gently tracing fingertips along his jaw. White eyes met dark as she nodded, another almost-shy smile crossing her face.
"Oh, I wonder... I've heard about a few quite bitter male Neji versions. Regardless, this is not your reality anymore." because her reality had merged with his. "I want your happiness, Neji."
She understood. No words were needed, only feelings. If he did not know better, he would think this is a manga, but no. He knew better. To Uchiha Sasuke, nothing was impossible. passing the comb to the hand that held the brush and collecting it between his index and middle finger, he paused so he could lay his hand upon hers, a light, genuine smile on his lips.
Another time, perhaps, she would have made a remark on how it seemed she was fated to be bitter and unhappy, no matter the form of iteration, but now? With Sasuke's hand against hers, it was hard to fathom being quite that unhappy herself.
"It does not change what happened," she murmured, shifting further now that the brush wasn't in her hair to just gently rest her forehead against his. "But I assure you, here, I am the happiest I have ever been."
"Nothing can change the past... in my world, nothing can bring back my family, my clan... and I wouldn't want it." he shook his head. "What I can do is rebuild it... and look to the future." This, right here, might be why this Sasuke was so different from any other iterations. The others mourned the past as theyw ere kept in the dark, but he knew the reasons, the hatred, and vowed to never let the Clan fall, rebuilding it by himself.
"I also am the happiest I have ever been. I have found someone to share love with." Share. This might be amazingly new. It was not exposed as a statement that he loved her, or that she loved him, but as something exclusively mutual. They needed the other for this feeling to exist. The concept of sharing implied balance. Perfect balance.
"We will be happy... together... for a long time." he assured her, leaning in to kiss her forehead again. "The future is ours."
She didn't have something like that. No future would bring back her father, or remove the cursed mark from her forehead... the most she could hope for would be for this place to bring him back to her, alive, but who was to say if he would even be her father, and not belong to one of the other iterations of herself?
Love was a powerful word, not one she used often herself. The permanence he spoke of... on one level, it was almost frightening in its intensity, but on the other, knowing that she had captured his attention so fully, had him here beside her...
When he leaned in to kiss her forehead, she didn't respond with words, instead waiting until he started to pull back before tilting her head and firming her grip against his jaw, holding him in place to brush her lips chastely against his. Again that hot flush stole through her cheeks, her whole body feeling pleasantly warm from the touch of the soft skin, but she didn't apologize. "Indeed, it is."
The necklace he wore brushed ever so lightly against her hair, hanging from his neck, its chain glimmering lightly in the morning sun's rays that shone through the window.
As fleeting as it were, this had been his first kiss. ...because no, knuckles against his jaw did not count as kiss, thank you very much Hinata. It may have been short, an instant..... but it would definitely be an unforgetable memory. He could, at this time, point out that no other morning could hope to beat this one, but it would break this atmosphere.
He returned her gesture, shifting slightly. As awkward as the the position may be, with his thumb tracing her jaw and fingers holding it gently as he returned the chaste, fleeting but emotion-charged kiss, ever-so-briefly, hat necklace rested upon her seal before he pulled back.
