Getting settled

This village was.... interesting. Not in a bad way, exactly, even though it didn't look like home, but this place was better than the last one he'd found himself in. He'd claimed a house a bit up the cliff face, where he could look out over the village, and he was sure eventually he wouldn't be the only inhabitant.

After all, this place seemed as baffling as the last. But, he was sure, he'd still get found by the ones who mattered eventually.

Thus, he settled himself under a tree, back leaned against it, as he nibbled some local dango.

There's no hostile intent at all as a perfectly aimed kunai thunks to the ground out of seemingly nowhere, embedding itself in the grass about half a meter from the other's foot. Perched atop the roof of this weird cliffside house, Tenten rests an elbow on her knee and her chin in her hand, spinning another kunai around her finger as she waits for the other to notice.

He peered at the kunai for a moment before turning his gaze up to her. "I hope very sincerely that you weren't aiming at me, as that would have been terrible aim."

In an instant, the other kunai is released from her fingers and slamming into the trunk of the tree behind him, close enough to shave a few hairs from the top of his head as she grins down at him, hardly offended. "I could aim elsewhere if you'd rather~?"

"Hmmm but then you might damage my clothes and I'll admit that they're not as easy to locate here as my last place of residence." He peered up at her, reaching to brush hair out of his face.

"Heh." She just grins again, taking hold of the edge of the roof and leaping down to the ground to set a hand on her hip, watching him carefully. "So what's the trick to getting out of this place, Itachi-sama? Already went around the village, seems pretty boring, really."

"I haven't honestly determined that. I believe it's a place removed from the Hotel as it was days before I saw anyone that seemed anything other than a working civilian."

[bunsofsteel]

"Removed?" She arches an eyebrow and lets out an amused hum. "That would be nice. I've started doing that stupid thing with every door I've gone through, you know."

Without a moment's hesitation, she approaches the other and drops down to crouch beside him, resting her back against the tree. "But if it's removed, does that mean it's one of those side-universes you mentioned, or you mean, like, separate completely?"

"I think... separate completely. I can't remember a day in the hotel where there wasn't people identifiable to me as Hotel residents, but here... no." He peered up at her with a slight shake of his head.

Her sigh of relief almost seems to collapse her entire body as she slumps down to sit more properly this time, just companionably bumping her shoulder against his as she closes her eyes. "So not home yet, but out of there... I think you're right."

She inhales deeply and lets her eyes slide shut. "The air smells cleaner here, too."

He nodded slightly and offered her a Dango stick. "I believe I was the first Shinobi here, but I doubt I'll be the last. This place has that sense to it."

She takes it without hesitation, eager to try eating something that promised not to have aphrodisiacs pumped into it. "Maybe I'll run into my teammates here, too. Get everyone together, get back home."

"I've been looking. There seems to be a great load of absolutely nothing." He huffed a breath. "I know that can't be so but I haven't the faintest idea how to actually leave here as of yet."

Still, she can't let herself get too down, munching through the dango with a soft hum of appreciation. "Well... we'll figure something out. I'll miss the weapons room, but that's about the only thing. Well," she amends, glancing at him and pulling another dango off the stick. "Maybe not the only thing."

He went still, then slowly looked sideways at her, waiting to see if she'd continue.

She just smiles and keeps the stick in her mouth, tilting her head to watch him before pulling it out to tap gently against her lips. "What?"

He stayed quiet for a moment before glancing away from her, picking up another stick. "Mm."

She wasn't sure if she could take that reaction as cute, or as a sign that he wasn't about to share the sentiment. Arching an eyebrow, she elbows him sharply. "Mm, what?"

He blinked, leaning away from her elbow a bit. "What?"

"You'll miss me." Pulling the final dango from the stick and shoving it into the side of her mouth, she taps the stick against his cheek. "You know you will."

He stared at her a moment before turning away, bangs hiding his face. "Things are ever changing."

Her brow furrows, and she pulls the stick back, lips edging into a frown. "Well, that's fine. I won't miss you either, then."

"You're here, aren't you?" His voice is soft, and he turned his head slightly. "If you wish distance there is little to be done, mm?"

"I didn't say anything like that--!" She frowns and shifts over so their shoulders aren't touching anymore, flicking her fingers to hurl the dango stick as if it were a senbon to thunk up against a branch overhead. "It's gonna happen eventually, you know. You'll get sent somewhere, maybe home, maybe somewhere else, and you won't have me around anymore. Then you'll realize how much you'll miss me."

His voice was soft as he tips his head back to peer at her stick. "Perhaps in the last several months I've learned to enjoy what I can instead of looking forward to what is going to be lost, mm?"

[bunsofsteel]

"Hmph." Hardly placated, she draws a knee into her chest to rest both arms atop it, following his gaze to where the stick's embedded itself deep into the wood. "You know, I get enough cryptic-talk from Neji."
