[Open] Because the universe hates him.
He had thought, with the halt of the lightening, that perhaps that meant the weather would be clearing. Instead, he was assaulted with the news that not only was the weather about to get worse, but that inches of ice were to be expected any time now.
Thus, it was understandable that he'd rushed his provisions so he could take multiple trips and make sure he didn't miss anything. It was on his last pass that his luck ran out, and he stared mournfully upward as he pulled his water proof cloak tighter around himself and his hat lower on his head.
Could winter not be finished already?

"Stupid winter..." the youth snorted, eyes narrowed at the grey clouds that were without a doubt responsible for his current predicament.

He suddenly remembered how Neji-sensei told this person was very dangerous and that he shouldn't be around him anymore. That was what he said, back then? Yes, something like that.
"H-hey, it wasn't that bad earlier!" he protested almost instictively, trying not to look as shaken as he was. Maybe if he just acts normally, everything will be okay and nothing as bad as Neji-sensei implied will happen, right? Right. "B-besides... you're outside too!" he pointed out, shaking slightly. "I wanna go home but there's all that ice and I just keep falling!" and he shouldn't be seen with the man.
...still, his ex-sensei really didn't seem like that bad a man right now...

He didn't know what had the boy so jittery, and frankly he didn't care, thus, he ignored it. "I, at the very least, can get myself home with little trouble."

"W-well fine, I'm gonna go home!" he started stomping off and almost crashed to the ground again. "Yeah, with little trouble, just like you!" nevermind that he almost slipped... He did stop a moment to collect chakra and sue the same trick as he did with his hands. He assumed that one basic principle applied to everywhere!
Now if he could take more than six steps without crashing? It would be marvelous.

"W-well... what?" he blinked, looking slightly sheepish. "I... I said I'd try harder..."

"Steady flow... I was making that though" maybe there was another trick. He frowned. "I'll try again" he gathered chakra again, as much as he could, and then took a few steps, some more... and he halted before taking another step to collect chakra again and start the process over. "..that..works too, no?"

He gave an embarrassed smile, looking away. "..ehe... I should have noticed earlier..." but he did not. This was why there were people to prod them in the right direction. "Thanks, Orochimaru-sensei!"

Focus one the right foot... then the left. Right... left... This was easier, and he didn't even feel that much drain. How many steps had he taken? "So... that was all there was to it? No wonder people can do that all day!" he was starting to wonder if he had to wait for his chakra pool to grow.
