"Aaah! Get back here!" he'd let some concentration slip, and the paper had been blown off by the wind. He groaned as it flew far, far off, and pouted. He'd done good holding it for the best part of two hours, too!

He blinked then, eyes widening. There -was- a paper nearby! Not his paper, but any clean one was good, and this one was laying on the grass, all really bright and yellow! It demanded to be picked up, and Sasuke did!

"Then it seems we must simply wait." Another sigh, and he settled himself into a chair near them, refilling Sasuke's teacup and giving her a rather warning look not to drink it in one gulp this time.

Now, he was just starting to get grumpy. His girl-self wasn't enthused about anything ever, and he couldn't even turn this situation around with his willpower. Fine then, he can be grumpy aaaaall he wants in her body if she's gonna be grumpy in his.

"This sucks" he stated, then proceeded to sip some tea.

"I'm going."

That time she didn't even wait for a response before she was on her feet, already heading towards the front door to collect her shoes again.

"Sasuke," his voice was soft as he looked to her, frown lessening. "Please don't. What will you do?"

Since he knew whatever he was going to say wasn't likely to have any weight, the other just went on sipping his tea.
Sheesh... grownups... They sure love to make everything so much more complicated than it is!

She didn't respond, instead going down the hall to her room before closing the door and just slipping into her bed, curling up under the covers.

"Sasuke..." Neji sighed through his nose and closed his eyes, shaking his head before looking to the younger one. A beat, then he reached to lightly touch his hand to the top of the younger boy's head.

"It's not you fault, Sasuke-kun... would you like to try to speak with her, or shall I?"

"...I tried b'fore... not like she's listenin t'me." he kept his gaze into the teacup. "...m'gonna stay here..."

A small expression of pain crossed his face at the sight of the younger boy in the girl's body so close to tears, but he could only sigh and incline his head as he pushed himself to his feet.

"Everything will be alright, Sasuke-kun," he reassured quietly, letting his hand rest atop the younger's head for another moment before giving the house a quick survey with his eyes to confirm where the older of the two Sasukes had disappeared. Within moments, he stood at her door, knocking twice and opening it without waiting for an answer, though he didn't answer.

"Sasuke...?"

She didn't answer verbally, curling up under the blanket more as she just tried to hide from view in an almost childish gesture, though she knew it wasn't actually hiding.

He didn't repeat her name, instead quietly letting himself in and moving with hesitant steps toward her bed, finally taking a seat at the corner without venturing to speak immediately again.

"... I hate this body..."

He laid a gentle hand atop where he knew her head to be, beneath the blanket. "Why?"

"It's the same..."

Again she shook her head, though she didn't try to jar Neji away, "It's male, but it's the same. It's weak, useless, unable to do anything... Like how I was..."

He closed his eyes and stayed silent for a moment after that, bowing his head.

"While I am certain it does not mean anything to you... I have never been disappointed by him, in the time I have spent teaching him."

"It doesn't matter how much you've taught him. He... He's still like I was. He wouldn't have been able to change anything back then."

He exhaled quietly through his nose and didn't remove his hand or open his eyes. "It isn't your fault, what happened," he murmured quietly, lips pressing more firmly together. "You were young then, and events were far out of your control."

"I should have been able to do something!"

Something akin to a pained noise left her before she curled up more tightly determined not to let her emotions get the best of her even as they continued to do so, "Niisan was a genin by the time he was 7. I should have graduated long before that night, but I was never good enough. If I was better, maybe I could have stopped it...!"

It was no good. She shook, hiding completely under the blanket then.

"Even were your skills greater, would you have had the ability to predict a thing no one in your clan saw coming...?" His hand shifted to her shoulder to grasp a little more tightly, offering what support she was willing to accept. "It is not your fault, Sasuke."

She shook her head, shivering under the covers but again not bothering to try and move Neji off of her.

He only closed his eyes and let his hand rest there. "You asked once what changed my opinion about the Hyuuga elders. Please let me ask you now... do you think, had I been stronger, I would have been able to do anything to prevent my father's death...?"

She didn't answer, but she did shake her head once more.

"That's different. You were a lot younger, weren't you?"

"Even still, do you not think that question haunted me as a child, and still does so today? Had I been the one to discover Hinata-sama's attempted kidnapping, had I been able to see it, had I been strong enough to stop it... Do you think I have never asked myself those questions?"

Again she was just silent, remaining under the blanket where she was and just listening.
"..."

He just exhaled through his nose again, squeezing her shoulder briefly before shaking his head. "I would be lying if I said... that I still did not ask myself those questions," he admitted softly. "And yet... all the wishing will not make a difference now."
