Her mouth closed at the touch, her body shifting ever so slightly to lean against his hand, even as her cheeks flushed more darkly. She wanted to accept this, wanted it more than anything else at this very moment.
Her clan wasn't here. Her obligations simply didn't exist; without other Hyuuga, there was no need. If some should come in the future... no.
It's hesitant, ready to flinch back if it should prove unwanted, but she drew a hand up to rest against the back of his own hand, the one against her jaw. "Sasuke..." Would it be so wrong, to let herself pursue her own freedom and her own happiness? Maybe here in this village...
It was irresponsible and impulsive, she knew, but right now, there was no one else she would rather be with.
Unwanted? how could it even be? It was more than he even hoped for. It was not only her acknowledgement of his feelings, but a positive response, a mirror to them. He felt unfamiliar but pleasant goosebumps.
True, he was the biggest flirt in Konoha... but it was not his world here. His goals were the same, and hers... hers hopefully coincided. She knew, and should most likely be prepared.
They did coincide, to a point. Was it enough of a point to make it worth justifying such a radical shift from the way she'd lived her life until now? How was she to accept if this were only a passing fancy of his, to be discarded once he found someone who didn't have a bloodline that might compete with his...?
It was unheard of, but it just seemed too cruel to shut this door so quickly. Uchiha Sasuke had entered her cage, whether she initially wanted him to or not, and now it was up to her to follow him out.
"But your clan," she murmured finally, the conflict clear in her eyes. A Hyuuga and and Uchiha was hardly a clean slate for his ideal new start.
"It isn't only mine..." he corrected, thumb stroking a cheek gently. "It's yours as well."
After all, no one really could predict just what would be the result of such a union. He wasn't certain himself if either dojutsu was prevalent, or if both would eb posessed onto one individual. It was not a clean slate, it may not be an ideal new start... but in spite of everything, he felt strongly for her. Stronger than he had ever felt before. for anyone. The ones he flirted with had never really been on his mind in any lasting fashion.
The fact she showed concern about his clan did warm him, but the sudden conflicting emotions had him fearful. Would his dream, his goal, his ideal future... be a reason enough for her to object?
Her eyes widened a fraction again -- he was right. If what he was proposing did come to pass, formally, properly... it would be hers. Intermarriage outside the Hyuuga wasn't a common practice; the elders guarded their bloodline jealously.
But the elders were not here. The entire clan only consisted of herself and her cousin, and there were no male iterations of Hinata-sama here. And even if they were... It had been easy in the past to deny herself happiness in the name of duty, but that was because she hadn't yet had a taste of the kind of happiness something like this could bring.
She wanted it so badly it was like a physical pain in her chest, her fingers tightening around the back of his hand slightly, possessively. Someone like Sakura or Tenten would be an ideal wife for him, someone who was unattached, could give herself heart and soul to the task of an Uchiha clan. That, too, showed in her eyes, but she wanted this. Wanted to be with him, see just how far outside her cage he could lead her.
At a certain point, that last Uchiha had thought it was a girl that would choose him. It was not entirely true, nor entirely false. Before he had known it, these feelings had come over him and taken him whole. He had rarely felt this way, and thought adopting a passive attitude and wait to be picked out would be best, to avoid bringing himself what he knew would be pain and bitterness.
This feeling had taken shape so quickly that it had taken him by surprise... and it also had taken her, obviously. They both shared this feeling, and although he was initially the biggest flirt in existence, this new, pure feeling had definite subtelties about it. He could tell, hearing his own voice, that he had never sounded like that... and that a girl's skin had never felt as smooth or pristine at his fingertips.
...and no woman had ever touched him back when he made physical contact, unless to push him away.
She was not pushing him away. She was connecting with him, hand upon his. He could feel her warmth, a warmth unlike any before. "Neji..." She would not be the only one to give her heart and soul... because here, now, he was willing to give her his, as well.
Where was the vaunted Hyuuga genius now? She felt like how she imagined a child to feel, or even a young bird taking its first flight from the nest. Sasuke was far from a proper man by Hyuuga standards, but he had accepted her for what she was, for whom she belonged to, without hesitation. How could she show the same kind of reluctance in the face of his willingness?
She swallowed hard at the sound of her name, the way it sounded so much different when he said it now. Her fingers tightened further around his hand, fingers curling around his. To not be alone, to look forward to having someone waiting for her, someone she cared for... It all seemed too fairy tale for the Branch Family genius, but she could see it was no trick.
A smile then, almost shy as she tilted her cheek to rest against his hand, thrilled by the warmth and unfamiliar physical contact, and a nod. "Sasuke." Not Uchiha, just Sasuke.
His free hand stroked her still damp hair, long and quite plentiful. He was content to let his eyes drink in her sight, take in her voice that said his name again, in a tone he felt was certainly reserved only for him. No formality, no artifices, only true feelings.
How strange it was, that her simple touch made him feel he existed, gave him so much of a purpose. Never would he have thought to find such a match here, out of even his wildest dreams. A Hyuuga and a Uchiha. Anywhere else it would have created a tsunami of reactions. Here though, it was nothing new. There was already a Hyuuga and Uchiha couple, merely their gender were reversed.
Gently, his thumb stroked at her cheek again, almost rythmically. For now, they both were happy with each other's mere presnce, and the feeling envelopping them, as it should be.
The thought to ask if he were sure didn't even cross her mind; she could see it as well as he could, no vocal confirmation necessary. She thought she might sit there for hours, eyes threatening to fall closed under the soothing touch of his thumb, but there's no way he could be comfortable leaning down as such. Abruptly, she stood and wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug, holding him in against her to put them on somewhat equal footing, one hand's fingers stroking lightly through the damp spikes of his hair.
"You said once that your goal was to make people happy," she murmured, eyes closed. "I assure you, in this...? You have succeeded."
The sudden movement surprised him, and the hug? He instantly returned it after the shock and spike of joy toned down, carefully snaking his arms around her, not too tightly but not too loosely either, just so she could feel him here, feel him being hers just as the opposite was also true.
He was hers... and she was his. This was how mutuality worked, and how love was born.
She was happy. She assured she was.
He, however, knew better, and he brushed a kiss against her nearby temple, then murmured. "...it's only the beginning." a pause, for emphasis.
She flushed again with the kiss to her temple, loosening her hold around him to match the strength of his own. Both hands settled near his shoulders, eyes opening as she laughed quietly, overwhelmed with the sheer emotion behind everything. "For both of us, yes," she agreed, turning her head just enough to press her nose to his temple, not quite brave enough to try a kiss just yet.
It all seemed too fast, too improper by her clan's standards; there was no omiai, no meeting of family members... Just the two of them, doing what made them happy.
Oh, he did kiss her twice already, but it was all quite very chaste, as surprising as it may be from him. It may just be exactly because of this that it was serious and special. he too, wished to not rush it and enjoy every moment, nuzzling lightly into the curve of her neck and settling there, closing his eyes.
He held her, while she held him, the two mutually supporting each other.
It was the most beautiful feeling he had experienced.
If there were any standards in the Uchiha clan, he would be the one making them.
She isn't certain how far she should be thinking ahead; it would be complicated, the organization of their potential clan, the bloodline... There were no politics to fear here, at least. Even if the Kage were Uchiha, it wouldn't matter. Right now, the only thing that mattered was Sasuke.
He was warm and solid against her, the thin sleeping yukata doing nothing to stop the warmth that threatened to encompass her whole body. "I suppose," she said finally after a long moment, "That whatever rumors people choose to spread about your presence here will no longer be incorrect."
He gave a laugh at that. He really had not been thinking about such a thing at all. "Looks like it." it did happen fairly quickly but.... love was always something unexpected, wasn't it?
He gave a light purr, feeling incredibly at ease and so, so comfortably warm. "Whatever rumours they spread... aren't things we have to listn to, cause we know the truth."
"Indeed," she had to agree, laughing lightly again and just pressing her nose to his hair. That purr against her throat made her shiver, warm breath against sensitive skin leaving her feeling even more flushed. "Sasuke..."
She took a breath before finally tilting her head enough to press her lips to his hair in a soft, tentative kiss. "Thank you."
The answer was the lightest of shudders through his spine, tiny goosebumps prickling his skin. This was all so pur, so new. It was unlike anything he ever had imagined. It was a hundred times, no.. a thousand times better.
And she was... thanking him. "I should be thanking you." he could feel her delicate breath against his hair. "...or you should be selfish and thanking yourself, because you had the choice of letting me in, or rejecting me." his voice was soft against her own skin. He was done... finished with the flirting and useless flitting from girl to girl. Not that he would stop trying to make everyone happy, but he could stop trying in this way, a way that hardly seemed to do much good here.
The more he spoke, the more flushed she felt, tilting her head almost by instinct to bare more of her skin. A choice... This was a choice, completely her own, for her own future. And that, she appreciates more than mere words could possibly express.
A breath as she tried to find a way to properly vocalize it. "I had a choice, and yet, there was truly only one answer I would give. My clan... I still have an obligation to them, but I will do it in a way that will also make me happy. With you...? I could not imagine being anything but."
She was enthrusting him with making her happy. It was nothing selfish, because this was what he wished for as well.
She had chosen him, for her clan... and also his own. Perhaps this was how things should be? this was how they were, however, and he did feel content. He actually did blush into her neck at those words. "Hearing this... makes me the happiest I've ever been." Now, that future he imagines... maybe he can see it more clearly. There was a good long, unforgettable minutes even if all they did was to hold each other.
Without even mentionning it to each other, they know. They both did wish for a lineage, but nothing was rushing them, and this was all pure and new. "...so, about proper breakfast conversations...?" he mused.
Being happy, permitting themselves the luxury, was perhaps the greatest gift she could imagine. Another quiet laugh of amusement as she glanced to him, fingers threading into his short hair again.
"I think, perhaps, that I shall never again have quite so memorable a morning meal," she answered, smiling against his temple and daring to brush her lips over his skin there again.
"What do you mean 'never again' hmm?" he purred, leaning into her touch as dark eyes trailed up and over, amusement dancing into them. "We can share as many morning meals as you fit."
Every single tiny touch was his very own piece of heaven. It was, he knew, the same for her as he lightly stroked the long hair at the back of her head.
Her own eyes fluttered closed at the touch to her hair, one of her weaker points. The idea of not having to eat alone... outside of missions, that hadn't happened since she was four years old, young and naive. In spite of herself, her smile widened further, one eye opening as she glanced to meet his eyes.
"I believe I have issued you a challenge then, Sasuke," she pointed out, lips staying curved in that smile. "How memorable can a morning be, other than this one?"
"Challenge~" he echoed, quite pleased. "That sounds good to me. Challnge accpted, my dear~" he drawled, pulling away just so he could take her whole features in. "Although, I have to say, it may be futile, since a confession only ever happens once, and this..... can make a morning very special~"
As he drew back, she let her hands fall to his shoulders again, eyebrow quirked. There was almost, almost an unamused look at the term of endearment, but it softened quickly because this time? It was clear to her that it actually meant something now.
"Then perhaps," she murmured, leaning in just enough to let her forehead rest against his, "It will be up to me to create a memorable morning for you, someday, Sasuke."
There was a brief chuckle at that. "Haven't we shared this morning together though? if it's unforgettable and can't be topped on your chart, then it can hardly be challenged on mine too." he gave her a small kiss on the nose. "Challenge or not though, I can see us both trying in our own way to make every morning as unforgettable as we can... as things should be."
Her cheeks went dark red again at the tender gesture, and she huffed softly, though she still couldn't help but smile. "Perhaps. And yet, who can say what the future holds?"
The only important thing, right now, was that he would be in it. For as long as possible.
"I suppose as a further unorthodox step, it would be you moving into my home, eventually," she observed, glancing about. "Seeing as how yours is already rather full..."
