"Even with this though... there is one thing I am convinced of..." he stretched a hand over the table to stroke her cheek gently with his knuckles. "..we are having the best possible of futures." he knew they were... because if he had been home, he undoubtedly would have stagnated, and still be mindlessly flirting.
He knew that just as randomly as they were brought in, they could also simply vanish. It was not impossible, even if all he had heard so far were a few cases...
She tilted her head into his touch, enjoying the familiarity and warmth of the gesture. "I agree," she murmured quietly with another, softer smile. After all, had they still be home, she wouldn't have had nearly the same kind of future -- one where she could choose for herself and be happy.
"In spite of the general atmosphere of this village... I do not think I could be happier, even in Konoha."
"I keep thinking... that we both were dragged here for this reason, somehow.. so we could have a little happiness." two more mouthfuls and the water was ready, so he got up to prepare the tea, bringing it back to the table and pouring half their cups before settling back to eat.
Then a thought came to him. "Oh, I just realized... I forgot dessert.." a pause. "Although this was never a problem."
"Perhaps, though I have never known fate to be so kind... nor been happier that it has." She accepted the tea and held it to her lips, blowing softly on the hot liquid.
Another smile at the mention of dessert, and without lowering her teacup, she quirked an eyebrow to remark with dry amusement, "Is this your way of saying that you have other plans for after dinner, Sasuke?"
"Plans? Ah... not exactly..." he gave a timid grin. "...and sorry again for falling asleep on you yesterday." there ad been much cuddling involved, and when they had settled, he was so comfortable that he tumbled into sleep after a few minutes. "You felt just that nice..."
She huffed through her nose and took a sip before setting the cup down and returning to her food. "I did not mind, truly. Considering that since the day we met you were preoccupied with attempting to rest against my shoulder, I cannot truly be surprised."
She scraped up the last of the noodles and finished the fish with another soft smile. "I am pleased that you were comfortable enough to do so."
"I love you..." he murmured softly, dark eyes misting over. "Each and every passing day I... just love you more and more and it keeps growing even when I think it can't..."
He collected his plate, and gave her a kiss as he bent to take hers.
She lifted a hand at the kiss and let it rest at his cheek, prompting him to hold the kiss a beat longer as she closed her eyes. Something like this felt as if it were as close to perfection as she could achieve at this moment.
"I love you as well," she answered softly as she released his cheek and drew back, taking her teacup in both hands. "More than anything else in this world. Which is why..."
He did remain, as long as she wished. Their days, even if peaceful and sometimes monotonous, were greatly aided by each other's presence. They were training partners, lovers, and each had a job which enabled them to miss each other during the day.
He didn't draw back more than an inch and... actually stilled the plates upon the table as he echoed. "..which is why...?" he could tell something else was on its way...
Their days were monotonous -- sparring, working with her teammates, working at her hardly-ninjalike-job, none of it was quite enough to keep her content. She was restless, more willing to seek things out.
She kept her eyes on Sasuke's, trying to read his whole expression, trying to see if he knew what she was going to say before she said it. She took a breath and finished, "I wished to speak with you regarding... the starting of our family."
Part of him might have expected it, from the light shift in her tone, which was why he had rested the plates on the table only being half-conscious he'd done so. It was also quite fortunate,, because his hand left them to support himself on the table, his other hand reaching over to touch her cheek lightly, trace her jawline, her lips. His vision was shaking, blurring with tears that he couldn't even explain the sudden eruption of.
To say she was startled by the tears would be an understatement, but it only showed on her face a moment before she reached up to lightly touch her fingers near one of his eyes. "If you are not ready, we can discuss this another time, Sasuke, truly."
Suddenly, in a flash of movement, he was in her lap, against her, holding her tightly and clinging to her. "No...." he shook his head.
"...no." he repeated.
"..I... I'm ready. I really-- if you-- I mean, Neji, I..." there, he's losing it and tipping over every word. "I'm so happy" he managed, nearly crushing her within the hug. maybe not crushing... but she could definitely feel it.
She sat there, both arms outstretched and feeling rather ridiculous as she wasn't completely certain what to do with the blatant display of emotion. Hesitantly, she let both arms wrap around him to hold him to her, fighting back another smile as she let a hand brush through his hair.
"I had hoped you would say that," she murmured, clutching him more tightly to herself at the rush of emotion that threatened to overwhelm her as well. It was a huge step for both of them, but... a necessary one. A good one.
He had always been emotional, really. He merely was not on the -angry- spectrum like many of his other counterparts. Now, however, emotions had overflowed. He knew their wish, he knew this was to be expected, but to actually be told such?
He claimed a few deep breaths, able to bring himself under control. "...does this mean.. you've calculated and... the best time is now?" he inquired, having drawn back a fraction, so dark eyes could stare into whites, wonder unhidden.
She only nodded at first, hugging him closely against her. "Now, soon, yes. It is hardly entirely scientific, but..." She took a breath and let her head lean against his, trying to fathom the enormity of just what she was suggesting.
She tried for a hint of her usual dry humor. "Though I am not averse to trying multiple times to achieve the wanted result, I hope you are aware."
"Neji..." he he let a long exhale out. "You.... no, we want a child, and we will get it." he kissed her lips briefly. "Tonight, tomorrow, we can try as many times as you wish..." They both wanted it.
It was their dream... She was ready, and so was he. "I'll be gentle." he promised, a hand through her hair. "...then again, I can't recall saying that and actually being able to do it.." not that she had ever complained.
She laughed, a quiet, contented sound as she rested her forehead against his with a nod. It was a strange relief, to be able to choose and decide that yes, now was the proper time for such a thing. For both of them.
"We both know that is not a promise I will hold you to," she murmured, flushing lightly in response without losing her smile.
She only smiled and didn't answer, keeping her fingers in his hair as she held him close. It would be bright, and only brighter still. In spite of the complications of bloodline and clan, they would persevere.
He gave her hair a light kiss, nuzzling. "I love you." he repeated. "I love you, Neji." he could never say it enough. He had never minded waiting for her to be ready. He had been living happily all those months... and now that she declared they could try, he was beyond himself with happiness.
"..sorry, I-- we're in the kitchen.. not proper..." but he couldn't let go.
"I believe this warrants an exception," she murmured in response, another light laugh falling from her lips as she hugged him in close. "I am sorry for hesitating so long, truly."
"No. Don't be sorry. You weren't hesitating, you were... thinking, preparing... I don't mind the wait, because... you,re comfortable with the idea now, if you brought it up, and this is what matters." he gave a kiss upon her ear.
He claimed a deep breath. "Every single day that went by was the best it could be... and the others from here on as well."
"I am." She nodded in confirmation and gave him another smile, contented. Her eyes fell closed at the kiss to her ear, and she just swayed there, thoroughly happy.
"And we will ensure that our future days are just as good, if not better."
"Better.. exists? Aha~" he gave a light laugh and nuzzled fiercely. "Do I ever love you..." he paused. "I do believe we'll be each other's dessert then, hmmm?" he purred.
