enjoying the fire

Kisame is standing next to the fire, just enjoying the warmth and the light. It's been a pleasant sort of thing to see all week long, just like the rest of the festival. He generally ignores people who step up to toss things into the flames. And he doesn't add anything himself. He had sort of toyed with the idea of making a wish back when the thing was first lit, just for kicks, but he hasn't been able to think of anything. And as for regrets, he has none.

So he's just relaxing--a tall man standing with his hands in his pockets, not so recognizable as a member of Akatsuki unless you get close enough to notice his strange features.

She paused with her mouth half open and laughed, looking at her son. "Yes, that too. I was going to say distinctive and interesting myself though." She looked back to Kisame. "Beauty has little to do with the kind of adorable I was thinking of."

[seafare]

"If I was purple, nobody would be scared of me," he said, like this would be terrible, grinning. And turning his attention to Mikoto when she spoke, he only smiled and shook his head. "You flatter me. It was a long time ago... I suppose I might have been." He was fairly sure he wasn't--adorable, that is--though perhaps a woman like this would have found him so.

"And just how old are you Kisame? Who knows, I might be older than you." She leaned forward a little, looking up at him.

[seafare]

"Ah, no, I doubt it..." He had to think for a moment. His own age wasn't something he thought about often or kept track of very carefully. How old had he been when he died? "Thirty-two, Mikoto-san."

[proudofmybaby]

"I was right. You are younger than I am." She laughed and shook her head. "Thought so."

[seafare]

He smiled at her. "It can't be by much. You seem to me like a very young woman."

[proudofmybaby]

She flashed him a grin. "Only three years."

[seafare]

"Ah, see? If we had come out of the same time and the same village, we might have been teammates."

[proudofmybaby]

She blinked, then shook her head. "Well, that's possible, but you would have had to come to Konoha, because I have no no desire to have been a Kiri shinobi, no offense."

[seafare]

That got a laugh. "None taken. I had no desire to be one, either."

[proudofmybaby]

Her lips twitched. "Thus the missing-nin status?"

[seafare]

"Exactly. And no regrets, on that front." He paused. "It's not a bad life. There's nothing but freedom, usually."

[proudofmybaby]

"And being chased down by hunter nin?" She looked to her son, who was watching them perhaps a smidge too intently. "You're not going to try to bring him home too are you? We still haven't convinced your Hyuuga friend."

[seafare]

"Ah, well. There's that, too." Though honestly Kisame had always enjoyed the hunter nin, as well. Especially when they were any kind of challenge. And he looks down at Itachi, shaking his head. "Yes, the Hyuuga boy. I met him, actually... I think it might be for the best if I didn't surprise him with any kind of visit."

She gave him a long look and hummed. "Well, don't let that stop you from coming around. I -do- like to keep an eye on those my children are involved with." She smiled at him, but it was a bit watchful as well. "That makes sense, doesn't it?"

[seafare]

"Perfect sense, Mikoto-san. I'm glad I got to meet you." He nodded, meeting her eye to show that he understood, and took a step back, preparing to leave. He looked down at Itachi, smiling. "And you, little one. Thanks for introducing us. Take care of yourself and your mother, eh?"

"I will! I hope I see you again sooner this time."

Mikoto smiled and inclined her head. "I'm glad as well. You seem like an honest man."
