Getting settled

This village was.... interesting. Not in a bad way, exactly, even though it didn't look like home, but this place was better than the last one he'd found himself in. He'd claimed a house a bit up the cliff face, where he could look out over the village, and he was sure eventually he wouldn't be the only inhabitant.

After all, this place seemed as baffling as the last. But, he was sure, he'd still get found by the ones who mattered eventually.

Thus, he settled himself under a tree, back leaned against it, as he nibbled some local dango.

"I already tagged you!!" Minoru taunted. "How you gonna' catch me when the BEAR couldn't even catch me?!"

Itachi just shook his head, and wandered into the little kitchen, where his partner was preparing lunch. He casually put his arms around him and leaned in.

"Got everything under control in here?"

"Well, even I can't ruin sandwiches. I see the bear will become a point of contention."

[itachi_san]

"I think we're all right as long as no one vows revenge..."

That comment was half jest, half serious.

"At least they're both all right."

[youngesthokage]

He paused, then nodded solemnly. "I don't know what I would have done if it had been worse."

[itachi_san]

"It's quite possible we would have one more set of sharingan in the family..." Itachi noted, preferring not to even consider the options in which his son could have been badly injured or killed. He also didn't want to think about the fact that one day, those boys will be trained shinobi, perfectly capable of facing even bigger threats.

"They don't need them so young. It never did me any favors, and i doubt it did for you either."

[itachi_san]

"No. We did far too many things too early..." Itachi agreed. "Then again, if Minoru had his way, he'd enroll himself in the Academy tomorrow. He's more eager than Sasuke was... and that's saying something."

He laughed and seemed to relax. "He wouldn't dream of leaving Isamu behind though."

[itachi_san]

"That... is perhaps our one saving grace." Itachi smirked.

Then he heard Minoru shout, "You can't get me! You can't get me!!" followed sharply by, "I can when you fall off the ceiling!"

"And then again..."

"....I'm going to rescue our children from each other." Setting the food down, he hurried out of the room to pry his child off the ceiling.

"Or at least rescue them from themselves..."

Itachi followed, just in time to see his youngest hanging (not by chakra, thankfully, as he probably would have come crashing down already) by his legs on one of the wooden beams. And he was proudly sticking his tongue out at Isamu.

Isamu, Isamu was in the process of flicking far too accurately aimed couch pillows at his brother when his father swept him up to keep him from accidentally killing his brother by dropping him on his head.

"We can't leave you two alone for a minute, can we?" Itachi reached up for the one on the ceiling. "The cabin is not a tree, you can't climb up there."

"It's made of tree, Mama!"

"Still. No climbing up there." he scolded. "Come down. Lunch is almost ready."

At that, Minoru let go and excitedly dove into Itachi's arms. Itachi wasn't quite ready for such a strong, forceful impact, and they both ended up on the floor.

"Heh heh... Whoops... Sorry, Mama..." he giggled.

"And then your mother died a death by Minoru stomping." Itachi murmured this and shook his head, carrying their eldest to the kitchen.

Minoru at least did the polite thing, and held out his hand for his mother.

Itachi climbed to his feet. That certainly wasn't the first 'Minoru stomping' he had ever received, and it certainly wasn't going to be the last.

"I expect this mess to be cleaned up after lunch." he warned.

"... Isamu threw all the pillows."

Isamu peeked over his dad's shoulder. "You were the target!"

Itachi huffed. "You're -both- cleaning it."

[itachi_san]

"... Yes, Papa..." Minoru sulked for a fraction of a moment before hopping up to the table to catch a glimpse of lunch. "I'm hungry!"

Itachi walked around to the other side and sat down as well.

Itachi set his cling-on onto a chair as well before getting the pile of sandwiches and sticking it in the middle of the table. "Enjoy."

He grabbed one as he pulled back lest his hand get eaten by mistake.

Minoru quickly grabbed one from the pile, taking a big bite.

"And to think... you once told me you can't cook." Itachi winked, waiting for the kids to pick their lunch before he took one for himself.

"This isn't cooking. This is preparing." He blinking over at the other man as Isamu inched the big plate loser, taking a sandwich.

[itachi_san]

"It's progress." Itachi smiled.

"Can I have dango?" Minoru interrupted the couple's playful banter. Itachi looked at the half-eaten sandwich in the boy's hands.

"You haven't even finished lunch."

"I will!" he took a big bite, and then asked with his mouth full. "Can I have dango?"

Isamu sank down in his chair and kicked him. "That's rude!"

Itachi blinked at his other son, wondering when he'd decided to care about manners.

"Ask after they get to eat or they won't say yes!"

Mystery solved...

Itachi set his lunch down for a moment and left the room. He came back a few minutes later and resumed eating. Eventually, the request for sweets came up again, and this time, Itachi had a plan.

"I have sealed two sticks of dango on a small scroll, and hidden it in the other room." he announced to the boys. "And you'll have to clean the room to find it."

He nodded to his partner, thinking this was a particularly ingenious idea.

"When the room is spotless, bring us the scroll, and I'll unseal your reward."

Isamu... looked smug. "Told you."

Itachi just started laughing and inclined his head to his partner. "Excellent."

[itachi_san]

Minoru scarfed down the rest of his sandwich for the hope of getting to finding that hidden treat a little faster.

"I thought it would be a good idea." Itachi nodded back to his partner.
