Naruto-kun had been in Michi no Sato for a few days now, and while after their first talk they'd shared many more, it still felt awkward and painful to be around him.

No matter that he'd said, and she understood, that he needed time to adjust to being away from the fighting and other things that had occurred back home, her heart was still heavy.

She didn't know how to talk to anyone about it. Would it be proper? Who would understand? Could she do it?

Lost in thought, she sat down in the dojo of Mikoto-san's house with the intent to meditate and clear her head, but it wasn't really working after an hour.

"But you see? Nothing to do with you at all! Just her seeing you as a pretty girl alone with one of her guys, that's all. Sasuke's horribly unfriendly so she doesn't really do it over him, but Itachi tries."

That sort of made sense to Hinata, since she'd dealt with being jealous of Sakura-san. "Yes, um, Itachi-sama seems very polite and wise."

She wanted to speak to the other girl about something else, but she was unsure how to approach it. "Um....uh..."

She noticed the hesitance and waved her on. "Go ahead."

"How do you...I mean...how can you cope...with Sasuke-kun?" she asked softly, making sure that her voice didn't carry up to the little boy that she'd come to visit Ino-san with.

She paused a beat, then gave her a wry smile. "Ah... which one?"

She blinked. "Any of them? Is it extremely difficult to be around any version of Sasuke-kun?"

[perfectcosmos]

"Not really." She paused, trying to figure out how to explain. "Sasuke is Sasuke, to me. I don't know what he's done, in the time between me and you.... but he's still Sasuke. Male, female, cold, young, he's still that person that I wanted to reach out to as a little girl. You understand that feeling, right Hinata?"

Hinata thought about the conversations she'd had with the female Naruto and the other male Naruto-kun who was attached to one of the female Sasukes. "Yes, I do. I feel better just being around him, in any form, but also...stressed."

She blinked, then laughed. "Sasuke takes work. He's not Sasuke if he's not work in some way, even the Sas-kun."

Hinata was almost a little offended when Ino-san started laughing, but then she thought about their similar situations with two totally different boys and she couldn't help but giggle too. "I suppose that is true. He wouldn't be worth it if he wasn't some sort of work to obtain, yes?"

"Exactly. I've set aside chasing mine, but don't you give up on yours, okay? He's a bit slower on the uptake."

[twinlionfists]

Really, she couldn't dispute the fact that he was slow to get certain things. "Neji-nii-san said that perhaps I shouldn't wait forever since time is short for all of us, but I still wish to...give him time."

[perfectcosmos]

"Hinata, I hate to tell you this, but you have to be forward with Naruto. He won't get it otherwise."

[twinlionfists]

"I have already declared to him that I love him," she whispered harshly. "I am unaware if there is anything else that I should do to let him know. He said that he appreciated that I acknowledged him at a pivotal time, but that his head was too full of things to really deal with what I had said." She stared at her hands, willing herself not to cry. It would do her no good. "I don't know the next step. I told him that I would wait, but I'm afraid that I might have to wait forever and he will just pursue Sakura-san anyway."

"So... he basically said he was overwhelmed at the time and hadn't thought about it since. Just... ask him if he'd like to go on a date with you. If he says no... then you'll know, and you won't have to wait for an answer anymore. But if that's not what you want to do, I -do- understand."

[twinlionfists]

She was so red she was in danger of fainting. "I...I...I couldn't do that. Ever." She shook her head, long hair moving over her back and shoulders like a piece of dark fabric. "Anything but that."

Really, she'd had to nearly die at Pain's hands before she could muster up the courage to tell Naruto-kun that she was in love with him.

"Ummmm I have other suggestions that I really think you don't want me to say instead."

[twinlionfists]

She was torn. She wanted her friend's advice, but she also wanted something practical that she could follow. "I understand," she said eventually with a sigh as her face went back to normal color.

"....Thought so. Well, should we go get the chibi or do we have more you wanna talk about?"

[twinlionfists]

She shook her head. "I...I don't know. Perhaps we can talk again later?"

[perfectcosmos]

"Of course! I'm always here if you need me, okay?"

[twinlionfists]

"Yes, thank you. The same applies should you need to talk to someone."

Yes, it was a little forward, but not improper, so she would just have to deal with it. She really thought she was over this stupid shyness.

"Thanks Hinata." She smiled and waved her through the store. "We should catch him before he eats all my tomatoes."

[twinlionfists]

"Oh, yes, the other Sasuke's would be very upset if he did that." Hinata took a look around at her friends wares. They really were beautiful and the oils and teas looked extremely practical. She would have to try some of them later.

She nodded and headed upstairs. "Sas-kun~."
