"...." Dark eyes were wide as he processed her words and their meaning.
Rebuilding his clan.
Here.
The idea had not entered his mind before she'd stated it, and once he did think about it, it made perfect sense. Although... "Should I be taken before I have time to pass on my knowledge though, it might be a very unfornate event." a pause, and he shook his head. "This sounds like a good opportunity regardless, and 'leaving' is only a what-if. There is no telling if I am here for months, years... or decades. If I have to take a bet, then... I will bet on the future."
"There have been those who have been here for months already," she agreed, white eyes watching him carefully, letting him reach his own conclusions. "It is still only a thought, however. You are the one who will, in the end, make the final decision as to what you wish to do."
Too disciplined to allow her restlessness to show by fiddling with her chopsticks, she instead folded her hands before her and quirked an eyebrow. "Hardly the kind of thing one imagines as breakfast time conversation, however."
"Hardly?" he repeated, cocking his head. "Any conversation is appropriate at any time if it improves one's condition, be it mental or internal." dark eyes trailed over to her. "I see nothing wrong since it helped me reach a decision. What of you?" he inquired, catching a grain of rice that had stuck to the end of a chopstick with a flick of tongue.
White eyes widened subtly at the question, though she didn't otherwise react. "What of me?" she repeated, giving him another unamused look at the tongue-gesture. "I believe we were speaking of Uchiha Sasuke."
"Oh, you mean that dashing, stylish and cool last Uchiha huh? Yeah, I guess we were talking about him, although... don't you agree that any conversation suject can be brought up if it enhances one's views regardless of the time of the day?" he reiterated his earlier question as it should have been.
"Perhaps," she agreed, unamused look unwavering as she looked to him. Unamused, and somewhat nervous. What did he wish to talk about. "Then what of me is it you wish to know?"
He gave an amused chuckle. "For now? Nothing comes to mind, but I am pleased that you agree on this." he did note she seemed constantly guarded. Then again, perhaps they were all raised that was, conservative, shielding themselves... He would not pretend to know everything, but mostly would hazard guesses.
"I gotta thank you though... for making me see what was in front of my eyes. This opportunity I do have to rebuild my clan, no matter where I might be."
"You're welcome." A flash of a smile then as she unfolded her hands and rested back more comfortably in her chair, sipping from her tea again. "As I have said before, it is a worthy pursuit of yours."
An exhale, then she pushed her chair back, reaching to take his empty bowl. "Would you like anything else, Sasuke?"
There was a chuckle, and he bowed his head. "I'll be fine with this, thank you~ Unless you were going to refill your own teacup." He would hardly bother her to refill only his at this moment, really.
She stacked the bowls and balanced them against her hip, taking both teacups and shaking her head at him. "You could simply ask that I refill yours," she pointed out, almost a chiding tone, as she set the bowls in the sink for later washing and refilled both cups. "Though I must admit, having someone to take breakfast with, outside a mission, is... rather pleasant."
"I'll ask plainly next time, then." he chuckled. It had been a while since anyone had used that tome against him. "You do have a point. My breakfasts at home tended to be all handmade and not exactly tat varied. Then again, I never saw anything wrong with okaka omusubi~" he purred. "This particular company certainly is nice though~"
Returning to the table, she pushed his cup across to him again and sighed quietly, shaking her head. "It it not that I found fault with my teammates' company, there are just times when..."
She folded her hands atop the table again and shook her head. "In any case, I am pleased you enjoyed what I had to offer."
"Change is good, sometimes..." Sometimes. He knows he will certainly miss them, as time passes. "...still, I wouldn't replace my teammates with anyone else." of course, they have been together for so long he is used to them.
"You know, that's somethin else I'll have to find a way to repay you for~" he mused, tapping his chin rythmically with a finger. "Since yesterday, everything has pretty much been tossed to me free of charge, and all." he sipped at the fresh cup of tea, humming in quiet appreciation.
She only nodded in silent agreement, unfolding her hands and cupping the warm tea. A pause as she stared into the liquid itself, observing her own reflection, before she looked to him again. "There is nothing you need repay me for," she corrected, shaking her head. "Everything was freely given, after all."
The chair made no noise as he got up, and his footsteps were equally silent. Should her eyes still be closed, she might feel the lightest of pressures upon the center of her forehead, upon those bandages as lips made contact with it, and then a perhaps too-close voice. "...whatever I like... This is a part of it, then."
Her eyes flew open, lips parting at the sudden rush of warmth that spread through her whole body, centered somewhere in her chest and spreading a deep red flush to her cheeks. Was she supposed to be touched, or outraged?!
She just sat there, all but gaping, before tilting her head to stare up at him, not quite achieving the frown she knew she should be wearing. "What are you...?"
There was no answer, because she probably could tell. Dark eyes looked into white... and should there indeed be outrage, revulsion or rejection.... then he would know just what to do.
It had been so sudden within himself, but it might not be within her... so instead of setting up a lie for himself and her, he would let her reach her conclusion... even if he ended up hurt in the process.
Neji was anything but blind; those widened white eyes met his, her breath coming a little harder through her nose as her heart raced. Everything she could see in his eyes, the set of his face... were her own emotions as plain as his? The yearning, the hope for something that was just for her, unbound by clan or prestige or the destiny she'd chosen for herself.
"Because." he answered, without hesitation, at the same time briging a hand up to make contact with a delicate jawline. If asked fora specific reason, he was uncertain he could even ennunciate it. Things were as they were. Attraction had happened, and so quicly... and he noted, possibly mutually.
She had yet to shove him back, to say anything that would crush the feelings that boiled so strongly within him. For now, she wore shock, and it was expected, but he knew more would come to light as it would recede. If she wished, he was ready to give her time. After all, she did state her position a few times, about the clan...
Her mouth closed at the touch, her body shifting ever so slightly to lean against his hand, even as her cheeks flushed more darkly. She wanted to accept this, wanted it more than anything else at this very moment.
Her clan wasn't here. Her obligations simply didn't exist; without other Hyuuga, there was no need. If some should come in the future... no.
It's hesitant, ready to flinch back if it should prove unwanted, but she drew a hand up to rest against the back of his own hand, the one against her jaw. "Sasuke..." Would it be so wrong, to let herself pursue her own freedom and her own happiness? Maybe here in this village...
It was irresponsible and impulsive, she knew, but right now, there was no one else she would rather be with.
Unwanted? how could it even be? It was more than he even hoped for. It was not only her acknowledgement of his feelings, but a positive response, a mirror to them. He felt unfamiliar but pleasant goosebumps.
True, he was the biggest flirt in Konoha... but it was not his world here. His goals were the same, and hers... hers hopefully coincided. She knew, and should most likely be prepared.
They did coincide, to a point. Was it enough of a point to make it worth justifying such a radical shift from the way she'd lived her life until now? How was she to accept if this were only a passing fancy of his, to be discarded once he found someone who didn't have a bloodline that might compete with his...?
It was unheard of, but it just seemed too cruel to shut this door so quickly. Uchiha Sasuke had entered her cage, whether she initially wanted him to or not, and now it was up to her to follow him out.
"But your clan," she murmured finally, the conflict clear in her eyes. A Hyuuga and and Uchiha was hardly a clean slate for his ideal new start.
"It isn't only mine..." he corrected, thumb stroking a cheek gently. "It's yours as well."
After all, no one really could predict just what would be the result of such a union. He wasn't certain himself if either dojutsu was prevalent, or if both would eb posessed onto one individual. It was not a clean slate, it may not be an ideal new start... but in spite of everything, he felt strongly for her. Stronger than he had ever felt before. for anyone. The ones he flirted with had never really been on his mind in any lasting fashion.
The fact she showed concern about his clan did warm him, but the sudden conflicting emotions had him fearful. Would his dream, his goal, his ideal future... be a reason enough for her to object?
