"As long as it is healthy." She nodded once, one hand touching her rounded belly for just a moment before she let her hand fall and continued to follow him.
The cool tea was more than welcome, and she relaxed easily into her seat with more grace than might be expected of a pregnant woman. "Whatever you like, Sasuke," she reassured with another nod, settling in.
"Whatever I like?" except no, he never had a shred of self-centredness, not since he had been with her, so... "But what about you?" yes, look at those oh-so-endearing, pleading dark eyes. That didn't last long before he chuckled. "Oh, but that just means you trust me to get you something you like~"
And of course, he inquired about any herring soba. They had unfortunately no soba, but did have herring available, so he picked out an assortment of sushi with a few varieties of fish, as well as two orders of crab legs.
Quite quickly, Neji was presented with sushi, and Sasuke had a few crab legs as well as his own plate of sushi. He instantly started cracking the legs into pieces and deftly cutting through them, opening the sections in half upon their whole length to remove the crab meat. After he was done with a set of the legs, the meat placed in a smaller bowl, he offered it to her. "Here~" all a ploy to save her the work, of course, he didn't mind doubling his own load at all.
She only gave him a patient look and sipped demurely from her tea. Hardly anyone but Sasuke would be able to tell that she wasn't being entirely proper, drinking a little more quickly than strictly proper, though the way she comported herself meant that it still looked almost absurdly dignified.
Already starting to work her way delicately through the sushi, she gave him a severe frown as he presented her the plate. "Thank you, but I am perfectly able to do it myself, Sasuke."
"But I wanted to do it for you." look at those eyes, listen to that sweet sweet tone he's using. How can you be mad at him?
No, really, seriously.
"Ah well, I tried." after a minute of this, he gave up and gave her the still-whole crab legs and claimed the small bowl. "...better?" These irresistibly dashing looks seemed to lose their power the more time passed. Maybe because they were in public. ...mostly because they were in public, because he knew a few things she couldn't resist in the bedroom.
She just met those eyes of his and took another sip from her tea. "I appreciate the effort, but would prefer you eat them yourself, Sasuke." Really, even if she were pregnant, she was far from helpless. As he presented her the whole ones, she set to breaking them apart, careful to keep from causing a mess. "Much better, thank you." Her frown was replaced by a pleased smile then as she nodded -- though if he were to mention those things in the bedroom, he'd quickly see her flush.
This stupid guidebook said to do nice things for her. Wasn't this a nice thing? This book was completely wrong about how the man should try acting while his woman was pregnant. He supposed taking her to a nice crab dinner was enough, for now. It was not about her being helpless, it was more about him trying to be nice and failing in quite epic a manner.
"Hm... I'm hoping we find nice designs for the crib's bedding.." this was one of the things they were out for, among others. There was not much of a thing about baby fashion, but the clothes did have nicer base colors at times. Michi was in tones of browns and beiges mostly.
Neji would probably go over that book with a marker given half the chance, but for now, she let him do his little niceties in the spirit they were intended. Most of the time, that is. After a long journey, she was tired, and as much as she tried to keep control of the way her hormones threatened to make her moods swing, she was having less success than usual.
"I hope that is the case. Sea motifs seem common here, so I believe whatever we choose will be something calming."
He did know these mood swings, and he was understanding of her, looking appropriately sheepish and apologetic when he had to, while still not holding any bitterness towards her. He was trying his very best.
"Hmhmm~ For some reason I'm seeing something blue with little yellow starfish~" he gave a chuckle. "Wouldn't that be cute?" although blue does 'typically' fit boys.
"Perhaps a pastel blue," she agreed, cracking another crab leg and depositing the shell out of the way. "Or a deep blue would also be acceptable, no matter the gender."
In truth, she rather liked the plainer colors Michi offered, but something with color... it would be better for a child, she imagined.
"Perhaps, if we could find a pattern of different animals, it could also be utilized as a learning device."
"Oh~ yeah! Like fish, seashells, octopus... I hope we can find that." every time he went shopping for the child, it was hard to tell if he was not a child himself, sometimes. He was so excited about everything, while still trying hard to not be too annoying for her.
"Hmm.. we have to get a story book too. Do you know any lullabies? I er, can't say I know all that many..." in the worse case, he'll make them up!
She nodded in agreement to the statement about the different kinds of fish as she continued to eat, only pausing at the mention of lullabies. His excitement was endearing, to be sure; she would only have to watch to ensure he didn't spoil their child too badly.
"As for lullabies... I cannot say I recall ever being sung one. Is it truly so important?"
"I can't recall being sung anything either, but it's probably cause I was too young, but... lullabies... it's something you gotta have you know?" he frowned thoughtfully while munching on some crab, then shrugged. "It's okay though~ I'll figure somethin out for sure. We -do- need a storybook though." yeah, he might just make lullabies himself.
...something about sheep, since they are fluffy and cute, and probably stars and the moon... since they come out at night, and night is when you sleep. Now if he can put this into pretty words with a tune, he's good to go!
"Is it?" She'd had no idea. It certainly seemed like a nice idea, but she'd leave it to Sasuke to do something like that. She couldn't imagine singing much of anything, really.
"But I agree as to the storybook. Reading is important, as it increases intelligence at a young age." Another nod. Something about tactics and weaponry, to be sure. Chakra molding. Mathematics and trigonometry.
"Hmhmm~ So then, we need a bed set, some clothes hopefully, maybe even a few bath things. We can't possibly have too many story books if we come across any." he already had the perfect setting in mind too. Oh would he love teaching their little one how to read and count!
Having finished his crab meat, he went to the sushi. "It'll be nice to browse around the village shops too.. think we should have a marine theme in some of the furniture too?"
"Perhaps, though I know you are keeping aware of the cost of such things, yes?" She eyed him a moment before nodding, returning to her meal to start picking delicately over the remains. "The theme is somewhat less important than the functionality of the item."
A breath as she reached across the table to just lightly brush her fingers over his hand. "However, I know that you will do what is best."
"Yes, the cost... I think I can at least get inspirations for furniture and build it myself." after all, when he put his mind to do something, he was a force to be reckoned with. "This is why I have days off. To build things, and shop around... and give you love~"
But he knew this was hardly satisfying. "I make sure to keep a ryo cushion for any emergencies."
"Building it yourself is preferable, if you can manage it." It certainly wouldn't be the same quality of craftsmanship, she would be the first to say, but it would serve its function as well as add to their home. "Because not only do we need to purchase something, we would also need to arrange its return to Michi."
She pushed aside her finished meal and cupped her glass in both hands, relishing the coolness.
"Oh~ I can manage I am sure. You acn point me to any designs you might like as we go~" and then at the mention of transporting...
"Return? Easy~" he took out a scroll. "Menma showed me how to use time-space jutsu to store things~" evidently, he was quite glad he had this knowledge.
Before he came here, if the mention of Menma had anything to do with it. She just nodded at the realization, taking a sip from her tea. "Useful, indeed."
He gave a light chuckle. "After all this time I can still surprise you huh? Then again, I haven't ever talked much about Menma, huh? ...aside from... missin him I mean." he murmured the last few words before taking a sip of tea. "He's the best Sealmaster's son, Minato's. He picked up a few things from his dad and heck, there's even some stuff he figured out on his own pretty quick. I thought it was hella tedious to store stuff in scrolls, but... it proved a great use in some missions we did."
He realized then, that there was a lot he never told her, all this time, but they did not need to know everything to love each other as they did. "Not to worry, I'll still keep money in mind, even if we can carry whatever we want..."
She nodded, keeping her tea close as she listened to him speak. It was interesting, in some ways because it was a person she didn't know anything about, in another, because it was through that she could learn more about Sasuke.
"Tian would store weapons in scrolls and use them as weapons," she murmured finally in response, fingers reaching to touch one of her chopsticks, holding it up before her eyes. "He was always fidgeting, always seeing what was around him to use as a weapon." She set the chopstick down. "Recently he had learned how to release weapons with paper bombs attached, and could control the explosion as well as the weapon. It was... impressive."
"Ah~ so he was like my Tenten.. except uh.. not as much a klutz. Sometimes I wonder how those teams succeeded.. Not that it matters, cause we were the best~" and most of this was through his own hard work and becoming an asset where he had been a weight.
"But still, controlling an explosion? Whoa! Sounds like a genius" he whistled in admiration. "Your team isn't something I,d want to be up against, aha~" then again maybe he would want to be.. no one gets better fighting weaklings...
"I have met the one called Tenten who is residing in Michi." In spite of herself, her fingers brushed over the chopsticks again. "We are both not the person the other was expecting, however, so I cannot say that we are friends. Merely comrades."
A soft smile as she looked into her teacup. "I do not know if I would go so far as to call him that, but... yes, he was skilled in his field. Perhaps, of people I have seen using weapons, he could be considered the best. Sensei referred to him as a weapons master, after all."
"Ah, that Tenten! Aahahaah!" he laughed aloud. "She wasn't the one I expected either! You should've seen that!" more laughter. "Mine never hits anything but herself, or distasters come close to happen when she's about to hit something. I happened upon her training and saw all those weapons about to hit a target. Of course, no other thought but saving the continued existence of the world was in my mind, so I rammed in with a chidori to keep them off their trajectory. It worked, but.. uh.. yeah since it wasn't the one from my world she sorta doesn't like me much other.. You shoulda seen her face though!"
"Fortunate it was not Tian you matched, as he would have challenged you on the spot." She hid her smile behind her teacup as she took a sip. "He took pride in hitting one hundred targets out of one hundred, after all."
She sighed quietly into her tea, smile fading at the corners. "It is strange, to think of all the changes that have happened in our lives without them at our sides, is it not...?"
