He was dressed up. Where his mother had managed to locate anything to dress him up with on such short notice with he had no idea, but it meant when he took off roaming he was a streak of dark blue and red amid those at the festival as he went here and there, utterly fascinated by the new sights.

He'd been to festivals in Konoha, yes, but those were different. This was -new-.

It also meant he wasn't exactly being the most attentive person ever, and had escaped the people he'd been with. Unintentionally, of course.

His cheeks go pink, but he only closes his eyes and takes a sip from his teacup. "Don't be ridiculous. I'm certain your mother is worried about you, after you wandered off as such."

She choked on her dango an started coughing, grabbing the tea and gulping down at least half from the cup. She's will be avoiding to comment by pretending to recover from choking.

"I'm not a baby, I'm perfectly capable of moving around the village without getting hurt or kidnapped or anything."

"I am aware of that." Neji takes another long sip from his tea, trying to quell his blush. "Even still, I'm certain that next time, she would appreciate notice, yes?"

She sighs deeply, recovered:"Ita-chan, I don't want Mikoto-san to get angry. If you don't want to go shopping with her, just tell her dattebane," She sighed.

"I saw you you know." He bit a dango off and pointed the stick from one to the other.

"Saw what?" Another sip of tea before he sets the cup down, giving Itachi a thoroughly unimpressed look. "I see you, too."

She blinked, looking at Itachi curiously. Asking same question seemed pointless. What is he talking about?

"After your last date~."

He does a better job of controlling his flush this time. Which had he seen? The hand-holding or worse, that impulsive kiss she'd given him? Either way, he only stares impassively at Itachi. "I don't know what you're talking about."

They are back at the topic. She flushed brilliantly, waving her hands:"Neji just helped me get shoes since te- Sasuke managed to melt ones before." Not very convincing, especially with that blush.

"But you kissed him!"

Damn. Having anticipated something like this though, he merely glances to Naruto with one raised eyebrow. After all, she hadn't explained it to him, either. Was that a common practice?

She sputtered. "That was friendly good-bye kiss, dattebane!" Something she felt like doing since he helped her AND treated her to sweets. But she can't say that... the kid already knows too much.

"But you never kiss -me- when you go out!"

"He does have a point," Neji remarks, an almost-invisible smirk touching his lips before he brings the teacup to his lips again. It was amusing, to watch her defense from what was from her almost certainly an innocent, if overly-friendly gesture.

She turned to glare at him before looking back at Itachi:"That's because you never come to tell ME that you are leaving, dattebane," she crossed her arms as if offended. But of course, she's not and she's joking.

"You never kiss otouto either and I -know- I've seen him mention to you before leaving before."

He couldn't help but smirk again, this one with a little bit of his old arrogance showing through. Of course she would prefer him over the Uchiha. It shows on his face for a moment before he manages to smooth it back to something resembling impassivity, though he still can't quite fully hide that smirk.

Kiss Sasuke-teme? She'd rather have herself punched... or punch him. She smiled at Itachi:"Your brother is not nice towards me so he's not getting the kiss. So next time you leave house, come tell me and I will give you this dattebane," she grinned and leaned over, pecking Itachi's cheek.

He hummed and seemed to consider for a moment, touching his cheek as he thought about his options. "...So Neji-nii if I kiss -you- on the cheek is it okay too?"

Neji just stares at him for a moment as he tries to derive how the other arrived at that conclusion. "Certainly not."

She turns to give him disapproving stare with crossed arms:"Why not?" This Itachi is just a kid!...well, very smart kid, but a kid!

"But! Oh." He seemed to come to a conclusion and looked him in the eye. "I give you permission to kiss me on the cheek too Neji-nii."

A soft sound emerges from his throat, what one might almost be willing to take as a growl of frustration; a rare sound he made when he was thoroughly confused and unwilling to show it. "I do not make a habit of kissing people on the cheek. Certainly not students."

In fact, he can safely say that he hasn't ever kissed anyone on the cheek, save for perhaps his father.
